Several countries in West and Central Africa are deprived of the Internet. The cause of the multiple outages is not yet known.

According to the Netblocks observatory, West and Central Africa suffered a major interruption of internet access on Thursday, citing reports from operators of multiple submarine cable outages. The cause of these outages was not immediately identified.

Ivory Coast was facing a severe outage, while Liberia, Benin, Ghana and Burkina Faso were experiencing high incidence, according to Netblocks data. The content delivery network Cloudflare has recorded major network disruptions in Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin and Niger on one of its X accounts.

“There appears to be a pattern emerging in the timing of the disruptions, impacting from north to south Africa,” Cloudflare Radar said.

South African telecommunications operator Vodacom also blamed connectivity issues on submarine cable failures affecting the country’s network providers.
