Introducing the Antimagnetic Chronograph: The Latest Innovation from Eberhard & Co.

Nice novelty at Eberhard & Co this fall 2023, with the arrival of this antimagnetic chronograph; also available in a three-hand version.

More concretely, it is an automatic mechanical watch equipped with a faraday cage (a soft iron structure which absorbs electromagnetic waves) which makes the movement insensitive to magnetic fields.

Originally, these watches were developed in the 1960s – for example at Rolex with the Milgaus or at IWC with the Ingenieur – for scientists whose measuring devices were likely to malfunction their timepieces.

Nowadays, mechanical watches obviously remain sensitive to magnetic waves now omnipresent in our daily lives (hence the development of more and more calibers which are intrinsically non-magnetic and which no longer even need a soft iron cage) .

From an aesthetic point of view, this Scientigraf Chrono sports a vintage design with this smoked black dial and these triangle indexes and hands with cream-orange luminescent material. The two counters feature an azure finish. The date appears at 6 o’clock.

The 41 mm steel case, water resistant to 50 meters, alternates polished and satin finishes while the screwed back takes up the original design of the model launched in 1961 with the logo and the inscription recalling the antimagnetic tests carried out at the time by the specialized center of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

The Scientigraf Chrono is available with a steel Chassis bracelet with a double push-button clasp personalized with the brand’s emblematic crest.
