iOS 17.2 may support Claro eSIM conversion and transfer

Customers of Clearapparently, they could converter easily convert physical chips into virtual chips from the iOS 17.2. The new, first seen by iHelp BR and confirmed by MacMagazineis being tested on the beta version of Apple’s operating system, which will likely also make it possible to transfer a e.g from Claro from one iPhone to another with ease.

As described on this Apple support pagethe possibility of converting a physical chip to an eSIM is something that depends on the support of the operators themselves and is part of a mechanism called eSIM Quick Transfer (or eSIM Fast Transfer), which has, among its features, precisely the possibility of converting a virtual chip to an electronic one.

Our reader Vitor Gomes showed, in practice, how the conversion process works. Basically, the user just has to go to Settings » Cell phone, tap “Convert to eSIM” and confirm the operation. Once completed, the line is automatically transformed into virtual and the physical chip is rendered useless and can then be discarded.

Although there is no confirmation that Claro will effectively adopt this mechanism as of iOS 17.2 (in response to the MM, the company preferred not to comment on the matter), it being tested and actually working is a good indication that it is. We don’t yet know if there will be restrictions on supported plans, however.

O MM also contacted Vivo and TIM to obtain information about possible support from them, but so far has not received any response on the matter.

Practical eSIM transfer may also arrive with iOS 17.2

Another possibility of eSIM Quick Transfer (apparently, the one that gives the feature its name) is to transfer an eSIM from one iPhone to the other automatically — which will probably also work for Claro users from iOS 17.2 onwards, as a feature is, in a way, indirectly linked to the other.

Second a forum user’s report Adrenalineit was possible to transfer a Claro eSIM from an iPhone 14 Pro to a 15 Pro in just over a minute in the latest iOS beta — without the need to contact the operator or perform any action in the company’s application.

To perform the operation, simply tap the “Add Data Plan” option on the new iPhone and choose between the mobile data plans on the old device, whose transfer is supported.

According to Apple, the user may be redirected to the operator’s page or application to complete the process — which, apparently, will not be necessary in the case of Claro.

If confirmed, the news will place Claro well ahead of other operators in Brazil in supporting eSIM.

It’s a good step forward, considering that just the other day we questioned the reasons for the difficulties imposed by the main Brazilian companies in relation to eSIM. It will come at a good time, therefore. ????
