iPhone 15: users say wireless charging doesn’t work in Chevrolet cars

After the problem that “fried” the NFC chip in BMW cars, users of the iPhone 15 line returned to using social media to complain about the devices’ wireless charging.

That’s because Chevrolet car owners say the wireless charging of iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max stopped working in their vehicles after updating to iOS 17.1.

Placing the device in the indicated location on the induction charger does not activate wireless charging, regardless of whether the device has a case or not.

I’m glad to know it’s not just me. My iPhone 12 Pro Max has worked perfectly (always) in my ’23 Chevy Traverse. I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max about 6 weeks ago and the feature stopped working as described in other comments: it starts charging for a few seconds and then stops. I’m currently on iOS 17.1.1 and have downloaded all updates since the phone was purchased on 8/10/23.

Commenting on the matter, General Motors said that it is “aware of the complaints” and is investigating the problem, and at the moment there is nothing to do other than wait for the company’s engineers to respond.

Apple has not yet responded to the complaints spreading across social media, especially in the United States. Still, as the problem apparently was introduced with iOS 17.1, everything indicates that a simple update could resolve it.

Currently, Apple has been working on iOS 17.2 and it should officially arrive in mid-December with fixes for a series of bugs.
