Why has Apple resisted a change for so long?
So far, Apple has strictly opposed an adjustment of the connection on the iPhone. Officially, because a standardization of the connections should slow down innovations. While that may be true, it’s important to remember that Apple makes a lot of money from the Lightning connector. But that could change soon, because the European Union wants to force companies to standardize by law. So the iPhone 15 could actually come with a USB-C port.

USB-C is now the standard for all Android smartphones. This has a decisive advantage for users: you can use one charging cable for several devices. There is less chaos at home and, by the way, it is also more sustainable. Apple itself is also already using USB-C, in its MacBooks and iPads. However, the company continues to rely on the Lightning connector for the iPhones. The European Union finally wants to change that.
Does Apple have to equip the iPhone with USB-C?
If the European Union has its way, smartphone manufacturers should use a uniform charging standard. A majority of members of the European Parliament have already spoken out in favor of this in 2020.
