[L'instant tech] Newcleo wants to win the SMR race with its lead-cooled fast neutron reactor

The mini nuclear reactors of 4^e generation, capable of closing the fuel cycle, could arrive faster than expected. If they are not expected before 2040 on the CEA side, the British start-up Newcleo, created in 2021 by Italians, claims to be ready to build a 30 MWe lead-cooled fast neutron mini-reactor in France, from 2030. It also plans to open a MOX fuel production line, thanks to an investment of 3 billion euros. According to its founding CEO, Stefano Buono, if the company has already raised 400 million euros and is on track to raise an additional 1 billion, it is because its SME of 150 people has a unique asset to win the race. .
