The iPhone X, announced in 2017 alongside the 8 and 8 Plus models, was the brand’s first smartphone to feature Face ID unlock functionality. These three devices will now only receive security updates.

The XS, XS Max, XR, iPhone SE (second generation) and newer models will receive the new features of iOS 17 in the fall, according to Apple.

The main new features include cleaner and more customizable contact cards, the StandBy screen displaying widgets while charging the phone, the Check In feature to notify someone that you are back home and new live voice transcription options.

The update will also include improved auto-correction, which will allow you to see the corrections made by the device and easily go back.

iPads also suffer

Apple’s tablets will also receive a system update, to iPadOS 17. Some devices will receive security updates only in the future.

This is particularly the case with the fifth generation iPad, launched in 2017, and the first 12.9-inch (32.8 cm) iPad Pro model.

The sixth-generation iPad, along with the fifth-generation iPad mini and third-generation iPad Air, are the oldest models to have access to new features in iPadOS 17, also due this fall.
