IPL: Lucknow team name announced

The Lucknow team, owned by Sanjeev Goenka, one of the new additions this year, has announced its name ahead of the IPL season 15 mega auction. The team is called the Lucknow Super Giants.

Sanjeev Goenka’s RPSG Group bought the team for Rs 7,090 crore. Prior to the auction, the team had acquired Indian opener KL Rahul for Rs 17 crore. Rahul will be the captain of the team. This is the highest reward in IPL history. Earlier, Virat Kohli also played for the Bangalore team from 2018 to 2021 with a salary of Rs 17 crore.

Apart from Rahul, Lucknow also acquired Australian all-rounder Marcus Stones. Lucknow acquired Stotonis, part of Delhi, last season for Rs 9.2 crore. Apart from that, the team had acquired Indian youngster Ravi Bishnoi for Rs 4 crore.

Ahmedabad, a newcomer to the league this year along with Lucknow, have added all-rounder Hardik Pandya and Afghan superstar Rashid Khan to their squad for Rs 15 crore. Hardy will be the captain of the team.
