Just last May, Dutch police and Europol dismantled a major IPTV network that served more than a million users across Europe. Several suspects have been arrested and face prison and a large fine.

A dragnet which reminds us that the IPTV system, even if more and more Belgians succumb to it, remains illegal. This provides access to more than 10,000 live television channels and a library of more than 15,000 films and shows. The monthly subscription costs around ten euros per month while the box costs between 120 and 150 euros depending on the model.
Proximus and Telenet more expensive
“Since the start of the year, demand has not weakened and I receive requests for information every day,” explains Jonathan, an installer from the Namur region.
“IPTV is very easy to install as you only need an internet connection. People look at their expenses and their budget and when they do their math, with digital television and the platforms to which they subscribe, IPTV is clearly interesting.” Interesting but risky since even users are exposed to legal action. But it is above all the “big fish”, namely those who manage an IPTV network and supply thousands of user accounts, who will have the most to fear…
And even if demand has been constant for several months, Jonathan expects an increase in connections in the coming weeks.
At issue: the latest decisions of Netflix to block account sharing between relatives, the majority of which was cut off this weekend, and those of telephone operators to increase their prices, such as Telenet whose subscription costs will increase on the 5th next June by 6%, or Proximus, certain subscriptions of which will see their prices revised in July. “The crisis is probably not over and others will surely still announce price increases. Each time this is the case, I see that my orders increase in the weeks that follow. I even have trouble not running out of boxes sometimes.”
