The Iranian regime needs only 6% of enrichment to reach the possibility of producing a nuclear weapon

An international monitoring mission revealed last week that Iran has enriched uranium to levels just below that needed to produce a nuclear weapon, Bloomberg reported Sunday.

According to two senior diplomats, international inspectors need to determine whether Iran intentionally produced this uranium enriched to 84% purity, or if it was the result of an unintended buildup inside centrifuges.

This is the highest level of uranium enrichment monitored by inspectors in Iran so far. Thus, the Iranian regime needs an additional 6% enrichment only to reach the possibility of producing an atomic bomb.

Iran had informed the International Atomic Energy Agency earlier that its centrifuges were equipped to enrich uranium with a purity of up to 60% only.

According to a Bloomberg report, this is the second time this month that observers have discovered suspicious enrichment-related activities at Iranian nuclear facilities.

Commenting on the “Bloomberg” report, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on its Twitter account: “We are aware of recent media reports on uranium enrichment levels in Iran.”

The IAEA quoted its director general, Rafael Grossi, as saying that the agency is discussing with Iran the results of the agency’s recent verification activities and will then inform the IAEA’s board of governors.

However, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, rejected what came in the media reports that nuclear inspectors had found traces of enriched uranium to 84%. Fars News Agency quoted him as saying that these reports aim to “distort and misrepresent the facts.”

The news comes amid tension between Iran and the West over Tehran’s nuclear activity and its supply of weapons to Russia, including drones, in addition to months of anti-government demonstrations at home.
