Just arrived at your tobacconist and it caused a sensation. EuroDreams, the new lottery grid from Françaises des Jeux (FDJ) launched on November 6, is a hit.

For its first draw, this game combined with eight other European lotteries allowed two French people to win the sum of 20,000 euros per month for 30 years. Luck was on their side: more than 40% of the grids were played in France.

This Thursday, November 9, 2023, she returns for the second draw since its creation. The first results, but also the shape of the gain, may have encouraged you to fill out a grid for this evening.

A comfortable pension guaranteed for 30 years, more chances of winning than the lottery… On paper, EuroDreams looks tempting. Really ?

Only three winners per draw

But to receive the pension of 20,000 euros per month, i.e. the maximum gain involved, you must hope to be one of the only to have the correct numbers.

How to play EuroDreams?

As a reminder, to play EuroDreams, you must check six numbers out of forty, and one additional number out of five (called the “Dream” number) to make up your combination. A grid costs 2.50 euros.

To win the jackpot, you will have to be very lucky since “this new game offers a one in 19 million chance of winning the maximum prize,” writes the FDJ in a press release.

Indeed, as we can read in the rule of the game, there may be no only three winners per draw. Per draw, the participating lotteries put a little over 21 million euros into play. This is a ceiling that they cannot exceed.

Let’s imagine that there are 10 winning bets, not everyone will win 20,000 euros per month. THE 21 million at stake are “distributed equally” among the winners. After the three winners, no more monthly payments. As with other lotteries, you receive your capital gain.

“It’s communication”

“It’s communication at the income level,” regrets d’actu.fr Nicolas Robineau, co-founder of the site Winning Draw, a media specializing in the lottery. Anyone who is also a gambler deplores the fact that the three-winner rule is not not highlighted enough.

But he qualifies: “It’s normal that lotteries take guarantees. Furthermore, we are in a scenario (having more than three winners) which does not happen often. »

A euro today is not a euro tomorrow with inflation

Even if you manage to get the pension, there is a good chance that you will not earn 20,000 euros per month for 30 years. And this is because of inflation (rising prices and depreciation of the currency).

Indeed, a euro today is not a euro tomorrow. As the gain is not indexed to inflation, our pension is subject tomonetary erosion. This means that we still have the same amount, but our 20,000 euros per month are losing value compared to past years and therefore, our purchasing power is no longer the same as at the start.

A wealth manager interviewed by BFMTV did the calculation: the 20,000 euros of 2023 will only be worth 10,000 euros after 30 years if the annual inflation rate is 2.5%.

Asked about this by actu.frthe FDJ responded that this game had been created “ at the request of the players“. “They wanted something new and they are attracted by this type of annuity game,” replied a spokesperson, adding that their betting objective was exceeded for the first draw.

Annuity, comfortable security

For Nicolas Robineau, a win remains a win. Furthermore, it is not not taxable. So this remains a sum net of tax which falls into a bank account each month.

We remain on a very comfortable pension. If, in 30 years, you want to be a homeowner, you can take out a loan. The fact of still having the monthly payment erases inflation.

Furthermore, the annuity is a significant security for the co-founder of Tirage Gagnant. “When you win the Loto or EuroMillions, you end up with a large sum at once. Except that you are not necessarily an asset manager,” he recalls.

Let’s imagine that you win the jackpot offered by EuroMillions this Friday, November 10, 2023, or 29 million euros. Let’s now imagine that you invest part of this sum in stock exchange. You risk losing part of the value of your winnings.

Do we have a better chance of winning than the Loto or EuroMillions?

Let’s come to a subject that may interest bettors: the chances of victory. With EuroDreams, you have one chance in 19 million to win the maximum gain (7.2 million euros spread over 30 years) and one chance in 4.66 to win a prize.

“Statistically, it’s the best,” notes Nicolas Robineau.

EuroMillions : one chance in 139 million of winning the jackpot, one chance in 13 of winning at least one win.
Heart : one chance in 19 million of winning the jackpot, one chance in six of winning.

For a similar play (2.50 euros for EuroDreams and EuroMillions, 2.20 euros for the Loto), the little news of the lottery is much the most interesting.
