IS propaganda: Upper Austrian kindergarten teacher stays on duty

The young Turkish woman was recently sentenced to five months conditionally for the crime of the “terrorist organization”. The convict is still on duty. The education department of the state was not aware of the case, nor did the kindergarten provider as the employer know about it.

Walter Eichinger, the spokesman for the Linz Regional Court, explains that this is also legally intended: Penalties of up to six months fall under the limited information according to the Repayment Act, only the criminal prosecution authorities may know about the criminal record.

The imposition of a professional ban was out of the question in this case, says Eichinger. This can only be pronounced by the court “if it is an act against life and limb, freedom or the sexual integrity and self-determination of minors.”

Deputy Governor Christine Haberlander (VP) made it clear that those who represent IS propaganda are not allowed to work with children and young people. The case shows an “information gap”, so the regulations should be amended, says Haberlander.
