Is Sony’s strategy working? Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered jumps from #84 to #3 in sales after PC launch

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered got off to a great start on PC: we don’t have Epic Game Store data, but on Steam it immediately climbed to the top of the sales and most played games charts, and today, more than a month after launch, Insomniac Games’ game is still comfortably placed in the Top 40.

The release of the latest NPD data, which reflects US console and video game sales during the month of August, provided additional insight into the success of Spider-Man Remastered on PC. As Stephen Totilo of Axios noted, thanks to its release on Steam and the Epic Games Store, Insomniac Games jumped from 84th to third place, overtaking Elden Ring and second only to two newcomers – Madden NFL 23 and Saints Row (2022).

The same thing happened with three other major Sony exclusives coming to PC. For example, in August 2020, Horizon Zero Dawn jumped from 89th to 12th place. In May 2021, Days Gone, which dropped to 247th, climbed to 20th, and in January of this year, God of War jumped from 146th to 5th.

The numbers are thus clearly on Sony’s side. PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst has always stated that the purpose of these conversions is “to attract new gamers who have not yet experienced the wonderful stories, characters and worlds” that the guys at PlayStation Studios have created. Apparently, they succeed.
