The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is concerned that Israel’s new attack will target Iran’s nuclear facilities. This threat was expressed by the Israeli military regarding the Zionist country’s plans which will be carried out this weekend.

The Iranian attack was in retaliation for Israel’s air strikes on its embassy complex in Damascus, Syria on April 1. Israel’s determination to retaliate comes amid calls from allies for restraint to avoid an escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, when visiting Iran’s nuclear facilities on Monday (16/4), said Iran had closed the facilities on Sunday (15/4), due to security considerations.

“Even though the facility reopened on Monday, I kept the IAEA inspectors away until we saw that the situation was completely calm. We will continue tomorrow. And this has no impact on our inspection activities,” said Grossi.

When asked about the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Grossi said his party had always been concerned about this possibility. He urged warring countries to exercise restraint.

The IAEA routinely inspects Iran’s main nuclear facilities such as the Natanz enrichment plant which is at the heart of the country’s nuclear program. Iran’s government says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but Western countries accuse Tehran of trying to build a nuclear bomb. (NDTV/Z-10)
