ISRAEL withdrew its troops from southern Gaza, including the city of Khan Yunis, on Sunday (7/4). They left the Gaza Strip which was almost razed to the ground after six months of invasion.

“Today, Sunday (7/4), the IDF 98th commando division has completed its mission in Khan Yunis. “The division left the Gaza Strip to recuperate and prepare for future operations,” Israel said in a statement to AFP.

Meanwhile, Professor of International Law at the University of Indonesia, Hikmahanto Juwana, believes that peace in the Gaza Strip will be difficult to achieve without UN intervention. This is done by deploying peacekeeping troops to stop and anticipate Israeli attacks.

“The idea is that the UN mandates a multinational force led by the United States (US) to beat back the Israeli army,” he told Media Indonesia, Sunday (7/4).

According to him, this process can provide a strong foundation for ending the conflict between the two countries. After the presence of these troops, a complete ceasefire could occur.

“Only after that was there a ceasefire and the ceasefire was supervised by the UN Peace Keeping Operations,” he explained.

However, said the Chancellor of the University, General Achmad Yani, the US cannot be relied on in this role. This is because the side of Uncle Sam’s country towards the Zionist country is very strong.

“However, it is impossible for the US to do that so Israel will ignore the UN resolution for a ceasefire and continue to attack Gaza,” he concluded. (Z-6)
