Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was hospitalized on Saturday – but spoke up again a few hours later. The 73-year-old assured via video message:
During a stay at the lake, he got too much sun and drank too little.
Netanyahu was admitted to Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv, the country’s largest hospital. According to his office, he had previously felt “dizzy”. Initial investigations have shown that the head of government is apparently dehydrated after a long stay at the Sea of Galilee in the north of the country. The 73-year-old was “in good shape,” it said in a statement from his office.
Netanyahu later confirmed this information in a video: He and his wife spent time at the lake “in the sun, without a hat, without water”. “Not such a good idea,” added the Prime Minister. He called on his compatriots to “spend less time in the sun” and “drink more water”.
Netanyahu was elected head of government last year at the head of a right-wing religious coalition – after he had previously ruled for twelve years in a row until 2021. There have been protests against him for months, mainly because of a planned judicial reform. In addition, his opponents are demanding the resignation of the 73-year-old because a court case is pending against him for corruption.
Netanyahu had already spent one night in the hospital last October. According to official information, he had felt uncomfortable during the fast on the occasion of Yom Kippur, the highest Jewish holiday.
