Israeli Proposal for Ceasefire and Hostage Release Deal with Hamas

Axios reported on Monday that Israel had submitted a proposal to Hamas, through Qatari and Egyptian mediators, that included a two-month cessation of fighting as part of a multi-stage agreement.

The report, citing Israeli officials, added that the agreement would also include the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza.

On Monday, media reports revealed details of an “Israeli initiative” to conclude an exchange deal with Hamas, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke regarding earlier the same day.

According to the Israeli “Makan” channel, the most important features of the Israeli initiative for the deal are:
– The release of hostages held by Hamas, “other than soldiers.”
– A ceasefire for a long period that the channel did not specify.
– Tactical withdrawal of the Israeli army from several areas in the Gaza Strip.
– Release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons, without specifying a number.

According to a Sky News Arabia correspondent, Israel was expecting to receive a response to the initiative from the Qatari mediator on Monday, but the response was delayed according to Israeli estimates due to the military operation in Khan Yunis.

Israel expects to receive a response within the next few days, according to the Israeli “Makan” channel.

Pressure is increasing on the Netanyahu government to work to release more than 100 hostages who are still being held inside the Gaza Strip.
