“It does me a favor, a peaceful France!” : Omar Sy evokes the memory of the Senegalese Tirailleurs in Seven to Eight

Tirailleurs to whom Omar Sy intends to pay homage, believing that they have been forgotten. “We have a lot of images, feelings, texts about what the Poilus went through, but the Tirailleurs, few, so it’s just that in fact: bring back a little more detail and information on these soldiers. -those who are so deserving”, he said. And to continue: “when we come to tell the story of the Tirailleurs, it does not erase the memory of the Poilus, it adds up, that’s our story in fact, it’s both. It’s all these memories that he must be accepted and acknowledged”.

A wishful thinking? Not so sure… The actor just wants these added memories to make France more peaceful. “It does me a favor, me, a peaceful France! Nobody likes confusion”, he blurts out. And the actor knows what he is talking about, he who made the choice to marry a woman of another color than his own and whose children are mixed race. “The mixture and the harmony, I see it, I live it, so I know it’s possible and therefore inevitably, I have perhaps more hopes than the others”he admits.
