The bill that reforms the pension system experienced a decisive day in the Chamber of Deputies, where the idea of legislating on the matter was approved by 84 votes in favor, 64 against and 3 abstentions.

The representative for the Ñuble Region, Sara Concha, justified her rejection of the idea of legislating by pointing out that “I cannot be in favor of a bill that ultimately does not solve the real problem of pensions in our country, but ends up throwing out hand to the workers’ pension funds, and that the State ends up taking charge.”

The president of the Social Christian Party stated that although she has “the usual willingness to be able to work on a better proposal, I am in favor of solidarity, but against the State putting its hand in the pension funds that are the effort and work of many Chileans.”

He commented that, although the idea of legislating the bill was approved, it suffered the rejection of what has been called the heart of the reform: the distribution formula of the additional 6% of contributions proposed by the Executive, with 76 votes in favor and 75 against, which was not enough to get over the fence. Now, the project must be processed in the Senate.
