As apartments are concentrated in the metropolitan area after 30 years, the ‘Urban Maintenance Act’ must be revised to allow reconstruction without safety inspection, as stated by the government. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to submit the revised bill to the National Assembly next month.
However, with about two months left before the general election, it is unclear whether the bill revision will proceed properly. The housing law amendment submitted by the government in January last year to abolish the obligation to live in apartments subject to the sales price cap has not yet been processed.
Since the amendment is automatically repealed if it is not passed within two months of the 21st National Assembly session, there is criticism that the government’s current policy is a measure for the general elections in the metropolitan area.
