This Wednesday, the national government updated the value of pensions by 27.18 percent as of March, according to the Resolution 38/2024 published in the Official Gazette with the signature of the former head of Anses, Osvaldo Giordano, an official fired by Javier Milei.

The measure differs from the announcement made days ago by the Minister of Economy Luis Caputo, who in an interview had anticipated that the increase would be 30 percent. In the same interview, Caputo had confirmed that a bonus would be added to the percentage sum. However, there are no details of that additional payment in the resolution published this Wednesday.

Increase for retirees: what the resolution says

“It is established that the value of the mobility provided for in article 32 of Law No. 24,241 and its amendments, corresponding to the month of March 2024, is 27.18%,” the rule states.

In the recitals, the text indicates that “the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) through its technical report on salaries, dated February 9, 2024, communicated the General Salary Index (IS) for the month of December 2023; and that the Secretariat of Labor, Employment and Social Security of the Ministry of Human Capital, on February 2, 2024, has provided the Anses with the variation observed for the fourth quarter of 2023, of the Average Taxable Remuneration of Stable Workers (Ripte )”.

These variations were used to “calculate the mobility index determined by article 32 of Law No. 24,241,” which “will govern as of March 2024,” the resolution states.

Giordano resigned, but his signature appears

It was surprising this Wednesday that the resolution published in the Official Gazette bears the signature of Osvaldo Giordano from Córdoba, who until February 9 served as head of the Anses and resigned from his position in the midst of President Javier Milei’s accusations about the position of his partner, Alejandra Torres, in the vote on the “omnibus law” in the Chamber of Deputies.

Anses sources indicated to Infobae that Giordano continues to lead the organization until his replacement is appointed. A PRO technician could enter in his place, linked to what arises from the Mauricio Macri-Milei meeting.
