Italian Cup: Ivan Perišić scored Inter Milan against Juventus for the Cup

The venerable Olympic Stadium of Rome was the scene of the “Coppa Italia” – the Italian cup final and the “Derby d’Italia” was served. Juventus Turin and Inter Milan faced each other in a bulging oval. In 2021, the two teams met in the semi-finals and “Juve” prevailed. As a result, there was the title for the northern Italians. This year, however, Juve botched the season and the Milanese still have a very good chance of winning the double of cup and championship title.

Nicolò Barella had the Milan fans who had traveled with him cheering in the sixth minute. The 25-year-old scored for the first time in the Inter Cup from a long distance. The blue-blacks caused a lot of activity in the penalty area and Barella circled the ball from around 18 meters into the cross corner. Juve is slowly getting into the game, which was played hard (but fairly for a long time). The “Old Lady” defended early and aggressively, which kept Inter in trouble. Juve’s defender Danilo Luiz da Silva had to be substituted in the 41st minute – he was replaced by an attacking man, Alvaro Morata.

Double strike from Juventus

After the break things went relatively quickly from Juventus’ point of view. Morata (50′), who came on before the break, scored from the center of the box to equalize and two minutes later Dusan Vlahovic (52′) made it 2-1 after a counterattack. Keeper Samir Handanovic was able to clear the first attempt, but the Serb converted the rebound himself.

Milan refused to give up and Juventus withdrew. However, the massive defense was confronted with rolling attacks. Inter often tried the high ball. In the 78th minute the alarm sounded: Leonardo Bonucci caused a penalty and Hakan Calhanoglu came on after a VAR check. He hammered the ball into the net – 2:2 and ten minutes left on the game clock. They didn’t make a decision and so it went into overtime.

Perišić joined the party

In injury time, the video assistant was used again and the Milan team received another penalty. Calhanoglu was already substituted and Ivan Perišić came on. The Croatian scored to make it 3-2 for Inter and added a little later after a quick attack. With his left foot in the penalty area he made it 4:2 (101st) and secured the club’s eighth cup title
