Jackson before the eventual triumph of the Rejection in the constituent plebiscite: “It would be a moment of high uncertainty in our country”

The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Giorgio Jackson, addressed the scenario that the government of President Gabriel Boric would have to face in the event of a possible victory of the Rejection option in the plebiscite of September 4 regarding the proposal for a new Magna Carta of the Constitutional Convention.

“If the Rejection wins, it would be a crisis for the government or are they separate strings?”, they asked the Secretary of State in an interview on T13 Night.

“I would say that it would be a moment of high uncertainty in our country. And I at least believe that the more informed (they are) the people will surely be able to obtain the best possible result and well, it will be the people of Chile who will express themselves that day at the polls”, he pointed.

Jackson explained that before the plebiscite “we have two options, both are legitimate. The job of the government is that people can go freely and informed to vote.”

In an interview with CNN Chile, the head of the Segpres had pointed out regarding the constituent debate that “this is a government that is for changes” when asked if he is part of a cabinet for the Approval. “I have not asked all the ministers, but this is a government that is for changes, therefore I imagine that each minister in terms of his personal jurisdiction will have her opinion (…). There is no instruction from the government to say it or shut it up“, he claimed.

President Gabriel Boric himself has alluded to his political career to show his preference. “You know where we come from, we have fought for a new Constitution for so long,” said the President a few days ago.

The Executive’s campaign to motivate participation in the plebiscite was questioned by the opposition and representatives of Chile Vamos and the Republican Party filed requirements with the Comptroller General of the Republic, accusing an alleged “electoral intervention” in favor of Approval. The campaign consists of a video released on Saturday that invites us to “make history” in the exit plebiscite. It was conceived without additional financing, with Secom’s own teams and in an interministerial effort under the wing of the Informed Voting Table. Before the claims, it will be the supervisory body that will have the last word and will settle whether or not La Moneda crossed the limits of disregard.

In this climate, the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, did not hide his preference when consulted on CNN Chile. “I am going to vote for Approval, because I believe that this constitutional process has been able to collect many aspirations of Chileans that have accumulated over the years”assured the head of public finances.

Giorgio Jackson, meanwhile, in his conversation with the open TV late-night newscast, explained that his government is determined to move forward with the proposed programmatic changes, regardless of the result of the September vote.

“There are many things that depend on a constitutional change in order to be implemented. Many of the things that we propose have a precedent in other reforms that other governments tried to make but that were declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court or that received criticism that prevented their processing because they were declared unconstitutional by the opposition at the time,” he stated.

“Obviously, the constitutional framework matters for the reforms, but this is a government that seeks to provide certainty. Us, Regardless of the result of the polls on September 4, it is a government that wants to move decisively towards changes and that is the mandate that we have from President Boric”hill.
