Jackson Irvine is fighting for a World Cup ticket and is missing St. Pauli at the start

There is still a win, there has to be a win. Of course, St. Pauli’s Australian Jackson Irvine would not have thought of this modified form of the German football battle cry after the success in the World Cup playoff game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

But the content is spot on: just one more win, then Irvine and the Socceroos will go to the Winter World Cup in the desert state of Qatar. There the Australians defeated the UAE 2-1 on Tuesday – Irvine himself scored the 1-0. And there they meet Peru in the decider on Monday (with ex-Kiezkicker Carlos Zambrano, now 32 years old and working for Boca Juniors in Argentina).

St. Pauli’s Jackson Irvine Warns ‘We’re Not Through’

“Of course it’s a great feeling,” said Irvine after the final whistle and “a brief moment of joy.” But, the 29-year-old pointed out in view of the duel with Peru: “We’re not done yet.”

The fact that he will miss St. Pauli’s start of training on Saturday hardly seems to bother Irvine compared to what he can achieve. “I’m already looking forward to the next game,” he said, “although I’m standing here right after the final whistle.”
