Rieti (Italy) (AFP) – Italian Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs, injured since mid-May, resumed competition with a straight line in 10 sec 12 (-0.9 m / s wind) Saturday in Rieti (Italy), three weeks Worlds in Eugene (July 15-24).

Jacobs was crowned Italian champion ahead of Ali Chituru (10.16) a few hours following a first 100m during the heats (10.17). He had been absent from the tracks since a stretch, and therefore only ran his 3rd and 4th 100m since his surprise victory in Tokyo last summer.

“It was useful to resume competition. The important thing was to resume to have sensations,” he said at the microphone of RAI Sport.

“I am not yet able to manage a full 100m, especially with two races in an hour (…) In training I had to do everything at a moderate pace. So it was more complicated to manage at high intensity. In the final (of the final, editor’s note), I had a little more trouble and I preferred to hold back a little to avoid contractions or strange things”, he added.

Jacobs is scheduled for the 100m Thursday at the Stockholm meeting, his last race before flying to the Worlds in the United States.
