The American actress once again spoke out about the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock, which occurred during the Oscars ceremony in March 2022.

Interviewed by the magazine People on this altercation, the American actress explains that “like many”, she initially thought that it was a sequence planned in the course of the awards ceremony.
“I thought it was a skit. I was like, ‘There’s no way Will hit him. It wasn’t until Will came back to his chair that I realized it was was not a sketch,” she confides.
Also discussing in this interview her separation from Will Smith since 2016, Jada Pinkett Smith indicates “We are still understanding what happened”.
“We’ve done a lot of work together. We have a deep love for each other and we’re going to figure out what that looks like for us,” she adds of her marriage to Will Smith.

On March 28, 2022, on the Oscars stage, Chris Rock tried his hand at a joke about the shaved head of Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia. A touch of humor which did not please the actor who went on stage to slap the comedian.
Back in his seat, Will Smith shouted in the direction of the comedian, under the astonished eyes of the assembly: “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”.
If he had remained fairly discreet after the incident, Chris Rock broke the silence on this slap last March in his comedy show entitled Selective Outragebroadcast live on Netflix.
“You all know what happened to me (…) I got slapped about a year ago,” he declared during his show, before blurting out: “It still hurts”.
For his part, Will Smith has apologized to the profession, the public, and Chris Rock. He immediately announced resign from one’s position member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which manages the organization of the Oscars. He was also banned from ceremonies for ten years.
