Chennai: Protests blocked the national highway in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district against Jallikattu.

Alleging that the district administration had denied permission for the jallikattu competition, around 100 youths blocked the Krishnagiri-Hosur-Bengaluru national highway.

The blockade continued for about six hours and the protesters pelted stones at the vehicles.

Protesters pelted stones at KSRTC Swift buses and Prevet buses operating from Kerala.

Also, there was widespread stone pelting on police vehicles, policemen and other vehicles passing on the national highway.

The police then used tear gas and lathi charge to control the protesters.

However, the authorities informed that Krishnagiri District Collector Jayachandra Bhanu Reddy had given permission to hold the Jallikattu, and then the youths protested against the order of the Hosur Sub-Collector to check the provision of facilities for the event.

Hosur Sub Collector R. Saranya was ordered to be tested on Thursday morning. But before the inspection led by the organizers of the event, locals and youths blocked the national highway.

Krishnagiri SP Sarojkumar Thakur informed that many of the protesters were drunk and vandalized around 10 government buses.
