János Szász teaches at a university, he started as a taxi driver in the USA

Film director János Szász restarted his life as a driver in America when he emigrated with his family in 2021. He now teaches at a university and founded a troupe in Washington, D.C., and his first outdoor play was nominated for an important American professional award.

A Telex reminds: Szász’s move was justified by what happened at the University of Theater and Film Arts and by the fact that at the beginning of 2021, the police searched his house in connection with the conflict surrounding the documentary about the Bangladeshi twins who were separated by Hungarian doctors. According to him, the police action was also an example, and it was not only for them, but also for others about the need to “remain silent”.

Veiszer in his interview with Alinda he also talked about: he drove because “I wanted to know what it was like to be at the bottom of this society. It’s all a matter of perspective, I didn’t have a single moment of self-pity, you can’t get anywhere with pain”.

He was then asked to teach drama at Georgetown, then began teaching at two other universities and founded a troupe in Washington. His first play Angels in America was recently nominated in twelve categories for an important American professional award. He said about this play that it would be foiled in Hungary.
