Japan has expressed concern over Chinese military exercises near Taiwan, coinciding with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island.
Japan’s top government spokesman, Hirokazu Matsuno, said Tokyo has conveyed its concern to China regarding the planned military exercises near Taiwan from Thursday, saying that the affected area overlaps with Japan’s exclusive economic zone, according to Kyodo News.
Beijing regards Taiwan as its own territory that must be reunified with the mainland, by force if necessary.
