This year, the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms are expected to start in Fukuoka on March 16. Tokyo follows closely on March 17, and most areas bloom earlier than in previous years. Fukuoka 3.16 First bloom! Tokyo 3.17, Osaka 3.22
The Japanese weather news company Weathernews announced the first cherry blossom forecast for 2024 on January 11. It is expected that the Somei and Yoshino cherry blossoms will start in Fukuoka on March 16 this year, and March 17 in Tokyo. As for Nagasaki, Saga, Yokohama is the 18th. It will open from West Japan to East Japan at the end of March, with Osaka on March 22 and Nagoya on March 19. From early April to northern Tohoku, Hokkaido is expected to bloom in mid-April before Japan’s Golden Week. The full bloom days will be counted from the 5th to the 14th from the flowering date. In most areas, the flowering date is earlier than in previous years.
The cherry blossom forecast indicates that the blooming time of Somei Yoshino cherry this year is earlier than in previous years. Among them, the blooming time in Kanto-Koshin, Hokuriku, Tohoku, and Hokkaido is a full week earlier than in previous years, while the blooming time in parts of Tokai, Kinki, and Kyushu is similar to previous years. The next cherry blossom forecast is expected to be announced in early February, so travelers planning to go to Japan to enjoy cherry blossoms should pay close attention!
