Japan, which suffered from an atomic bomb in World War II and has since become a peaceful country, had to make a decision on military issues that has not been seen for many years.

In its document ‘Concept in Security in Space’, the Japanese Government plans to expand the use of space to guarantee the protection of the national security of the Asian country and create conditions to further develop the space branch of its Armed Forces.

Thus, the authorities assured that this will increase Japan’s possibilities when it comes to monitoring possible threats coming, especially, from commercial and military satellites from third countries.

It is expected that this will also make it possible to collect more information on satellites to achieve greater efficiency when responding to various threats, including a possible attack, always respecting the Japanese Constitution.

In this sense, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida seeks to strengthen interaction with the United States and other countries to “improve the defense capability of the Japanese forces when it comes to neutralizing communication systems of possible adversaries”.

The document stresses that it is important to strengthen the interaction between the Ministry of Defense of Japan and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and increase support for private companies that develop space projects to increase their competitiveness in the world and reduce costs.

Regarding its own counter-strike capabilities, Japan has in turn promised to increase the speed of information transmission by combining multiple small satellites and improve its visual data interpretation technologies through the use of artificial intelligence.

China and Russia with nuclear arsenals

Beijing invested massively in its military as its economy and influence grew, said Dan Smith, director of the Stockholm International Institute for Peace Studies (Sipri). “What we see is that China is becoming a world power,” he added.

India, Pakistan and North Korea also increased their stocks and Russia did so to a lesser extent, while the other nuclear powers maintained the size of their arsenals. Russia and the United States jointly have almost 90% of all nuclear weapons.
