JD Vance to Visit Islamabad; Iran May Refuse Talks

Donald Trump announced on Friday that a U.S. Delegation led by Vice President JD Vance will travel to Islamabad on Monday to engage in talks with Pakistani officials.

The announcement came during a campaign rally in Wisconsin, where Trump framed the visit as part of efforts to address regional security concerns, particularly regarding Afghanistan and counterterrorism cooperation.

According to Iranian state television, Tehran has indicated it may decline to participate in any parallel discussions involving the U.S. Delegation, citing ongoing tensions over nuclear negotiations and regional influence.

The Iranian broadcaster did not specify whether the refusal would be formal or conditional, nor did it detail what form of engagement Tehran might accept instead.

U.S. Officials have not publicly confirmed whether the Islamabad talks will include indirect communication with Iranian representatives, nor have they outlined the agenda beyond broad references to stability in South Asia.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has not issued a statement confirming the visit’s schedule or the expected participants from the U.S. Side.

Vice President Vance, who has previously focused on domestic policy and judicial appointments during his tenure, has not made public remarks about foreign policy engagements since assuming office.

The timing of the visit coincides with heightened diplomatic activity in the region, including recent talks between U.S. And Afghan officials in Doha and ongoing consultations between Pakistan and Iran on border security and trade.

No official confirmation has been received from the U.S. State Department or the National Security Council regarding the delegation’s composition, objectives, or expected outcomes.
