A press conference by Jean-Marie Dedecker is planned for this Thursday. He will announce that he will once again join forces with the N-VA in the elections, reports The newspapaer.
In 2019, Dedecker, mayor of Middelkerke, was already on the N-VA parliamentary list for West Flanders. But in recent months, a project has emerged to relaunch Lijst Dedecker (LDD), the party he founded in 2007.
But a number of elements have started to work against the LDD scenario in recent weeks. For example, a poll published last week in West Flanders showed that the LDD would not reach the electoral threshold in this province – even though it should be the best performing constituency.
Finally, there is the Middelkerke factor. Dedecker wants to add another mandate as mayor. Municipal elections will take place in October 2024. If he were to perform poorly in the national elections with the LDD, it could have a negative impact on his local campaign.
