jö Bonus Club and Pensioners Association: Discounts should not be a question of the smartphone app

The country’s largest customer club provides its members with discount advantages both digitally and in printed form.

Vienna (OTS) The jö Bonus Club, as the largest customer club in the country, provides its 4.4 million members with benefits by mail in printed form and digitally using jö äpp. Members can also freely decide whether to collect and redeem bonus points (Ös) via app or haptic card. The jö members should be able to choose for themselves how they would like to use the advantages of the customer club.

As President of the Vienna Pensioners Association, I would like to express my appreciation to the jö Bonus Club for its consideration for senior citizens when it comes to the use of advantage cards in retail. It is extremely important that older people have the opportunity to decide for themselves whether they want to present their advantage cards analogue or digitally“, so Harry Copytz, President of the Vienna Pensioners Association and continues: “By offering this choice with the jö Bonus Club, BILLA enables seniors to feel comfortable and safe while they do their shopping. The flexibility to offer both analog and digital options is a big step in the right direction. I hope other companies follow this example and ensure that older people have the same opportunities as everyone else.

More than 700,000 people over 65 use the jö card

In the last 12 months, 761,400 people over 65 made purchases at jö Bonus Club partner companies and showed their haptic jö card or the jö äpp. Of these, 52,581 people have already used jö’s digital options, and the trend is rising. This shows that 708,819 users over the age of 65 only show the haptic jö card when shopping. These jö members would miss out on many discounts if only a customer loyalty app and no mail delivery of printed discounts were offered.

Customer loyalty programs have become increasingly digital in recent years. Clubs are often only accessible via app and benefits are only offered digitally. In my opinion, discounts should not be a question of a smartphone app. It is very important to us to give our jö members the freedom to choose how they want to use their club. That’s why jö still has a haptic customer card in addition to a smartphone app and we conveniently send discount benefits to your home by letter“, so Mario Günther Rauch, Managing Director of jö Bonus Club.

In the last 12 months, jö members were able to save around 126 million euros across Austria through jö-specific benefits – in Vienna alone the savings amounted to 31 million euros. This makes it clear that people who do not have access to services are exposed to higher costs. In addition, freedom of choice is a top priority at the jö Bonus Club: since June 2023, members have been able to choose whether they would like to provide their personal data such as name and address, or whether they would prefer to use discounts with alias access. This means that even those people who do not provide their personal information can save on shopping with the jö Bonus Club.

Digitalization also plays a central role at the jö Bonus Club. That’s why there are some advantages that are only visible in the app. This is intended to create an incentive for people to take a closer look at the app. The jö Bonus Club will continue to offer its members haptic jö cards and benefits by mail in printed form and let customers decide for themselves how they would like to use jö for themselves.
