US President Joe Biden has called on Israel to better protect hospitals in the Gaza Strip. According to media reports, Biden said on Monday in the White House that he hoped and expected that there would be less intense fighting in connection with hospitals. Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces offered to supply incubators for premature babies. “We are at war with Hamas and not with the people of Gaza,” an army spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

“We have made a formal offer to the health authorities in Gaza to bring incubators to the Gaza Strip to help the children’s clinic at Shifa Hospital,” said the spokeswoman for the Israeli Cogat authority, which is responsible for contacts with the Palestinians, in a video published on Tuesday . Photos showed an Israeli soldier bringing incubators into a van.

According to the Ministry of Health, which is controlled by the terrorist organization Hamas, seven newborns recently died after oxygen machines were switched off in the Shifa hospital in the north of the sealed-off coastal strip. The lack of fuel led to the deaths of 34 patients, the ministry said on Monday. The information could not be independently verified.

Israel accused the terrorists of preventing the acceptance of 300 liters of fuel that could be used to power generators in the hospital. In response, Hamas claimed that the fuel was only enough for half an hour of operation. According to the head of the clinic, the team feared that they would be shot at if they left the clinic.

According to the Ministry of Health, the largest clinic in the Gaza Strip has been out of operation since the weekend. The UN emergency relief office OCHA announced that 36 premature babies who are dependent on incubators and therefore on electricity, as well as several dialysis patients, were in acute danger of death due to the power outage.

In addition to Biden, the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, also demanded that, in addition to better protection for hospitals, there must also be safe evacuation routes for those trapped there. According to eyewitnesses, thousands of people are still stuck in Al-Shifa Hospital, including hundreds of patients and children.

There is heavy fighting in the immediate vicinity of the building. It is considered strategically important in Israel because the army suspects it to be the command center of the Islamist Hamas. Hamas and hospital staff deny the accusation.
