Joe Root resigns as England Test captain

London: Joe Root has stepped down as captain of the England Test team. The news of the departure of the root captaincy has been confirmed by the ECB. “The end of an age,” she wrote on Twitter. The 31-year-old Root has been under pressure following the team’s poor performance in the last few series.

Root-led England lost the Ashes series 0-4 earlier this year. England then suffered another shock defeat to the West Indies last month. England lost the third Test by 10 wickets.

Root, who captained the England Test team since Alastair Cook stepped down in 2017, has led the team in 64 matches. Route won 27 matches as captain and conceded 26 defeats. His pass percentage is 42.18.
