Joe’s Kansas City Becomes First Restaurant Approved by 15 and FARE

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have expanded their philanthropic food allergy safety program in Kansas City, securing Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que as the first local restaurant recognized through the 15 and FARE initiative. The effort, launched to help Kansas City-area restaurants better serve customers with food allergies, reached its latest milestone earlier this week when the establishment announced its new status on social media alongside a newly posted sign.

Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que shared the milestone on social media with a caption reading, We are really proud today to post this sign up, and adding, Joe’s is the first restaurant to be recognized as 15 & Fare approved. Over the past two years our management staff in our restaurants have become certified in food allergy prep & handling. The restaurant also credited Patrick and Brittany Mahomes and their charity, stating, This initiative was started by @patrickmahomes & @brittanylynne and their charity @15andMahomies. Now we want others to join us! We’ll be sharing soon how other restaurants can join 15 & Fare! Brittany Mahomes reacted to the announcement on Instagram by commenting with clapping emojis.

Program Requirements and Personal Ties

The 15 and FARE initiative began to help Kansas City-area restaurants better serve customers with food allergies under the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation—founded by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes—which partnered with the non-profit organization FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) for the project. To meet the program’s standards, restaurants must train at least 90% of their food-service staff, complete monthly on-site audits for three consecutive months, maintain a written food allergy management policy, and provide allergen information on their menus. The cause is deeply personal for Patrick and Brittany Mahomes because two of their children have severe food allergies.

Future Restaurant Participation

While Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que has successfully completed the two-year management staff certification process and secured the inaugural approval, details on which local establishments will follow remain open. The restaurant indicated that further instructions regarding how other eateries can join the 15 and FARE program will be shared soon, leaving open the question of which Kansas City venue will step forward next.
