Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.. all you need to know about closing arguments

Friday was about closing arguments in the civil defamation case by Johnny Depp against Amber Heard.

Depp testified during the trial that he did not abuse his ex-wife, Amber Heard, but that film studios would not approach him due to her allegations of domestic violence and domestic abuse.

During her closing argument, Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, touched on the alleged inconsistencies by Amber Heard, took this testimony and compared it to the testimony of several other witnesses, and said there were many inconsistencies.

The issue was born out of the release of a 2018 op-ed piece by The Washington Poe at the direction of Amber Heard saying that she, as a public figure, represented an abused person of domestic violence.

In her plea, Vasquez said, “On May 27, 2016, Mrs. Heard entered court in Los Angeles, California, to obtain a unilateral restraining order against Mr. Depp, and in doing so, took his life by falsely telling the world that she was a domestic violence survivor on Mr. Depp’s hand. Today, on May 27, 2022, exactly 6 years later, we ask you to give Mr. Depp his life again by telling the world that Mr. Depp is not the abuser that Mrs. Heard spoke of, and to hold Mrs. Heard responsible for her lies.”

Ben Rottenborn, Amber Heard’s attorney, said: “Mr. Depp simply cannot prove to you that he never did Amber, and if you don’t know, you should rule in Mrs. Heard’s favour. The judgment against Amber here sends a message, that whatever it may be. As a victim of violence, you always have to do more, and whatever you document, you always document more. Whatever you tell, always tell more people. No matter how honest you are about your own flaws and your shortcomings in the relationship, you You need to be perfect for people to believe you. Don’t send that message.”

Amber Heard has a reverse defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp, with both seeking damages and punitive damages, but jurors will not return on Tuesday to give their opinions due to the long weekend.
