Jordan Bardella launches the RN campaign by denouncing an “authoritarian” Emmanuel Macron

Jordan Bardella on the stage of the “Grand Débat des Valeurs”, organized by the weekly “Values Actuelles”, at the Dôme de Paris, on March 22, 2022.

Jordan Bardella had an unfortunate sentence in Fréjus (Var), by launching, Thursday, April 28, the legislative campaign. “Emmanuel Macron was for more than five years an authoritarian leader who confiscated a large part of the freedoms of the French people”said – and repeated – the president of the National Rally (RN). “If 450 to 500 Macron deputies find themselves in the National Assembly from June onwards, then there will be no more reason to criticize other forms of regimes elsewhere in the world.did he declare. We would move away from the idea of a mature democracy, we should not then come and criticize regimes where democracy may be less developed. I am thinking of Russia, for example. »

Stupor. If Emmanuel Macron has 450 deputies, France will not be better than Russia? “Don’t make me say what I didn’t say, resumed the MEP, but I think it will be complicated to give lessons in democracy if Emmanuel Macron were to have full powers. » Jordan Bardella did not seem to understand the enormity of the comparison, and he somehow maintained his parallel between a democratically elected parliamentary majority and a dictatorial regime that has just invaded a neighboring country.

For the rest, the president of the RN confirmed that Marine Le Pen would be a candidate for re-election in his stronghold of Hénin-Beaumont (Pas-de-Calais), and announced for his part that he would not seek to be elected to the National Assembly. “I am an MEP, I want to complete my mandate and I will have the opportunity to fight other battles in the months to come”assured Jordan Bardella – he actually does not have the material time to spend four days in a constituency and manage a complicated party in Paris.

“The objective is clear, to send the maximum number of patriotic deputies to the Assembly”, he announced, but he was careful not to give a quantified objective. He recalled that“with a historic number of votes never reached in the second round” of the presidential election, just over 13 million votes, the RN candidate Marine Le Pen had come out on top in 30 departments, 18,000 municipalities (and 22,000 in the first round), and that the RN exceeded 40% in 349 constituencies: a solid basis for building “a powerful group in the National Assembly”.

“The phone heats up a lot”

The RN will therefore present 577 candidates in the first round of the legislative elections, and remains ” in discussion “ in a few constituencies to support “people who would come from other political formations, who would be disappointed and who would be led to join us”. There will be no alliances, despite calls for help from the executives of Eric Zemmour (Reconquest!), “because we consider that, in the first round, each political movement must make prevail the project which it defended within the framework of the presidential campaign”. On the second, the RN says to himself on the other hand “perfectly arranged” to provide support “to the patriotic candidates” the best placed, including those of Eric Zemmour, “if there could be any”.
