Joshua Roy reveals the CH plan for him

With 74 points in 38 games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, Joshua Roy is really making his place among the Montreal Canadiens’ best prospects.

The 2021 fifth-round pick explained the reasons for his success during an interview with Jean-Charles Lajoie on Thursday.

“It went really well in Montreal and I went back to Sherbrooke really confident. From the start of the season, things were going really well too. I have the chance to play with two very good players in Xavier Parent and Julien Anctil who help me a lot. They are two 20-year-old players with a lot of experience. It helps me a lot.”

The QMJHL’s leading scorer didn’t give up following being cut by the Canadiens. He quickly rolled up his sleeves upon his return to Sherbrooke.

“I expected to be cut, but I wanted the chance to play at least one preseason game. I would have liked that, but it’s not more serious than that. It was still special to be cut because it was the first time it had happened to me. My first game in the QMJHL was more difficult, but I found my bearings from the second.

To fulfill his dream of playing in the NHL, Roy knows exactly what he needs to do.

“I will continue to play my style. I’m successful because of that. I’m going to try to do it even better, because if I want to get to the next level, I’m going to have to. I want to be more involved and I’ve been working on that a lot in the last year. I was blamed a lot for it, but it’s getting better. I have to keep working on that and it should be fine.”

The Quebecer also talked regarding the Canadians’ plan for him, who is in regular contact with certain members of the organization.

“I am not in contact with Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, but I am with Rob Ramage and Francis Bouillon. They really follow me a lot, they write to me and I went to eat with both of them. They still follow up closely on me. The physical trainer also writes to me for my training. They keep in touch with me.
