Journalist Arrested | Alt News founder Mohammad Zubair arrested

New Delhi: Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair has been arrested. Mohammad Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police. He was arrested on charges of inciting religious hatred and inciting hatred. He is currently under arrest in a case registered in 2020. Pratik Sinha, co-founder of Alt News, tweeted that Zubair’s arrest had been stayed by the Delhi High Court earlier. He tweeted that Zubair had been summoned by the investigation team and arrested.

The Delhi Police has registered a case against Mohammad Zubair following a complaint by a Twitter user alleging that he had tweeted a suspicious image for deliberately insulting a particular religion or deity. The complainant alleged that such tweets were retweeted and that there was a group to spread it on social media. The FIR alleges that they abused him, thereby disrupting communal harmony and working to disrupt public order.

An earlier police investigation had found that Mohammad Zubair’s tweet was not offensive. However, the police investigation report said that the subsequent retweets and comments were inciting communal rivalry and hurting religious sentiments. The incident was being investigated.

In June 2022, the Delhi Police found that Mohammad Zubair had already made an offensive tweet and continued to provoke controversy / hatred through his followers / social media. The FIR was registered and an inquiry was started. He was later summoned for questioning but refused to co-operate with the investigation, police said.

During the investigation, it was found that the conduct of Mohammad Zubair was suspicious and he was now taken into custody and arrested to investigate the conspiracy in the matter. Zubair, who was produced in court, will be remanded in police custody for further questioning.
