Juan Miguel Hernández León: Apostle of postmodernity

I personally feel the death of Ricardo Bofill. He was a very important figure for the renewal of Spanish architecture in the eighties. I think specifically, he was able to take a certain dull, gray sense out of the discipline.

With such a long history, we find different phases in his work. From the time of Walden 7 and those initial proposals, so closely linked to the so-called ‘gauche divine’, his works served as a reference for young people in training.

It evolved until a final stage in which it established itself as an apostle of postmodernity, and drifted towards an architecture that ended up having more impact on social groups but which nevertheless kept the critical and professional group further away from its proposals.

This does not prevent us from recognizing that Bofill is and has been a great character in the history of Spanish architecture and, of course, in Catalonia. His figure cannot be dispensed with if we want to explain the creative processes of the second half of the 20th century.
