European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas walked through Beirut Port on Thursday, leading a senior delegation to inspect security and safety operations at an economic gateway.
The high-level visit arrived on Thursday as part of an escalating European diplomatic push to reinforce Lebanese state institutions and bolster security capabilities. Officials stepped directly into the facility to review operational workflows, container yard procedures, and safety protocols.

Accompanying the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy were European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra De Waal and Chairman of the European Union Military Committee General Sean Clancy.
Marwan Naffi, chairman of the board and general director of the port, received the delegation upon their arrival. The officials walked through the container terminal to observe how daily logistics intersect with maritime security standards, covering the strict procedures adopted across the facility to maintain operational safety.

Beyond daily operations, the port serves as a logistical engine for the national economy. Naffi noted that the tour highlights the maritime hub’s role as a vital trade gateway.
