Kamala Harris formalizes her candidacy for the US presidency

Kamala Harris, the vice president of the United Statesofficially accepted her nomination as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the November 2024 elections at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.

“The delegates of the Democratic National Convention have nominated Tim Walz and me to be the next vice president and president of the United States of America. I thank you all for believing in what we can do together. We are deeply honored to be your nominees,” Harris announced during a rally in the city of Milwaukee, held simultaneously with the second day of the convention, which is taking place in Chicago.

Harris, 59, secured the Democratic nomination for president earlier this month when she won the support of 99 percent of delegates at a virtual meeting of the Democratic National Committee.

In addition to the resignation through a letter from the current president of the United States, Joe Biden, who abandoned his re-election for a second term and to once again face Donald Trump, who aspires to the White House for the period 2025-2029.
