Pulpally: To solve the shortage of drinking water in Pulpally-Mullankolli panchayats, water has been released from the Karapuzha dam into the Kabani river. It is expected that water will reach the barrage constructed at Marakadu, 60 km away, within two days. Water has been released from Karapuzha Dam on an experimental basis since Wednesday morning. Water is initially released for 4 days.

Officials informed that the public should be careful in entering the river and that the released water should be used only for drinking purposes in Pulpalli and Mullankolli panchayats and strict action will be taken if water misuse is noticed. 5 cumex water has been released. The Irrigation Department informed that those who go down in Karapuzha, Panamaram and Kabani river should be careful.

Yesterday, with the cooperation of the people, a barricade was built across the river in Marakadu to stop the water. The river has stopped flowing completely.

Pumping will take place only when the water from Karapuzha reaches here. The released water is expected to reach Kabani within two and a half days.
