Stefanos Kasselakis is optimistic about the course of SYRIZA in the European elections in the interview he gave to the journalist of the Financial Times, Tony Barber in the context of the 9th Economic Forum of Delphi.
“I’m convinced we can surprise her Europe and the country in the next electoral process”, he said characteristically, and added: “I have no doubt that the distance with the ND will close very quickly within the next month”.
According to the protothema, Mr. Kasselakis he also referred to the steps currently being taken in SYRIZA. “My responsibility is for the new SYRIZA to put forward a new government team as well as a program, and that is exactly what we are doing,” he noted.
Regarding the model envisioned for Greek society, the president of SYRIZA PS stated that the rule of law and the regulation of open markets will have a prominent place in it, saying of the government that “in the regulation of open markets even in the field of of energy they have done nothing”.
“The first banking collapse in the Western world was in this country,” Mr. Kasselakis recalled, and wondered “if the economy is growing because they disinvested from the banking sector,” speaking of the government.
As for his party’s ideological stance, “I think it’s a matter of etiquette,” he explained, adding that “people wake up in the morning and think about how they’re going to pay the bills, that’s not what they’re thinking about.”
“If this country was a positive economy, we wouldn’t have the most expensive housing in Europe,” he continued, noting that “we need radical solutions to solve big problems.” We would be center-left, but this is not enough, as he stated, adding, however, that “we cover this gap”.
“It’s time to see that we have a left-wing, interventionist, aggressive party that the country needs”
Referring to the governance of SYRIZA, “as far as the so-called sloppiness is concerned, SYRIZA was elected so that it could negotiate the austerity that Germany imposed on the country”, noted Mr. Kasselakis, while adding that the citizens “gave Alexis the mandate to negotiate and he tried and brought changes”.
In fact, he mentioned not only the security cushion, but “managed to have the best support measures in the history of many states of Western Europe and for this Greece was able to face the pandemic and many other crises”.
“It is the moment to see that we have a left-wing, interventionist, aggressive party that the country needs” described the President of SYRIZA PS and continued, saying that “as far as foreign investors are concerned, I would like to assure you that I am talking and communicating with them better than my competitors,” he noted.
What does he agree with Trump on?
As Mr. Kasselakis stated, “I am the only politician in Greece who has achieved these results in the Western sector”, while when asked about Donald Trump, he replied that what “we agree on is the policy towards China and the distortions it causes in trade”. “But unlike Trump, I don’t overlook human rights violations,” he clarified, adding that “Trump is very selective in what he proposes and agrees to.”
The president of SYRIZA PS also stated that “the EU must support Ukraine” and that in order to achieve this goal “Greece has a role to play”, but that it is up to other countries to provide the military assistance it needs.
“We need a transatlantic independence” he decided about NATO, noting that “it must be a defense alliance as it is and we must focus mainly on the independence of Europe’s defense capacity”, while when asked about the horizon of his stay in the Greek political scene, ” yes, I am in Greek politics for the long term, beyond the next elections”, he concluded.
