KEF Expands XIO Soundbar With Wireless Surround Support
Owners of the KEF XIO soundbar can now transition their standalone audio setup into a multi-speaker home theater layout following an over-the-air firmware update reported by Trusted Reviews on November 6, 2026. The patch introduces support for the KW2 RX Receiver, which acts as a bridge for adding discrete wireless rear channels.
Building Out the Rear Soundstage
Once the receiver is integrated, the system accommodates a specific lineup of existing wireless speakers to fill the space behind viewers. Current hardware choices include the LSX II, LSX II LT, and Coda W models.
Engineering constraints mean these rear channels operate strictly as surround speakers rather than immersive height channels. None of the compatible units support spatial audio formats like Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, nor do they feature upfiring drivers designed to bounce sound waves off ceiling surfaces. The update builds out a proper rear soundstage for films and television, but stops short of full vertical immersion.
Phased Hardware Rollout
KEF plans to expand the compatible speaker roster over the coming months. The LS50 Wireless II will receive integration support by the end of the year, followed by the LS60 Wireless and the LS LUXE during the first part of 2027.
Pair Subwoofers and Calibrate Systems Using the App
Subwoofer compatibility remains unchanged since low-frequency management was already standard on the XIO. Users can immediately pair the soundbar with KEF’s KC62, KC92, or KUBE subwoofers without waiting for additional patches.
System calibration and pairing of the newly supported rear speakers are handled directly through the KEF Connect app, which walks users through the initial multi-channel setup sequence.
Extending the Hardware Lifecycle
The KEF XIO originally launched as a dedicated all-in-one unit, earning a 4.5-star rating and the Best Soundbar award from Trusted Reviews in 2025.
