Mozambican President Daniel Chapo laid the foundation stone in Chigamane on Saturday for a new golf course development, kicking off an ambitious national strategy to position Inhambane province as a premier international destination for golf tourism.
Chigamane Breaks Ground on New Golf Project
State machinery and equipment are already stationed on the site to advance construction.
The Mozambican Government unveiled the project to turn Chigamane, located in Vilankulo district, into a fresh golf tourism hub designed to generate employment locally, draw in travelers, and expand the existing tourism options. President Daniel Chapo revealed this program during the Second Edition of the Mozambique Tourism Summit, which took place in Vilankulo within Inhambane Province. Construction work kicked off on Saturday.
The Presidency stated that this undertaking serves to expand Vilankulo’s tourism portfolio, aiming to boost the area’s capacity for drawing tourists and cement its status as a top-tier location across both domestic and global tourism sectors. Supported by private funding projected at US$5 million (€4.3 million) as highlighted by Inhambane Governor Francisco Pagula, this scheme aligns with the governmental framework designed for advancing golf tourism throughout Inhambane province. Oversight of the zone has been handed over to the public entity National Agency for Integrated Tourism Development (Anditur), tasked with backing investors, streamlining licensing steps, providing project feedback, and sourcing financial backing for approved ventures.

Provision has also been made within this framework to establish the Golf Tourism Development Fund (FDTG). This fund is meant to support funding for physical infrastructure, professional instruction, global marketing efforts, sporting events, youth-focused community schemes, ecological preservation, and local participation projects.
The initiative aims to attract tourists from various regions of Mozambique and countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Zambia, creating conditions to stimulate the local economy, encourage business development and expand the participation of national operators in the tourism value chain,

Officials Showcase Investment Opportunities
The administration aims to advance a growth strategy that merges financial commitments, wildlife preservation, and the adaptability of regional populations. Special focus is directed toward inland wildlife sanctuaries and coastal habitats, particularly the Quirimbas and Bazaruto archipelagos, where rich ecological variety serves as a foundation for nature and ecological travel.
During the Second Mozambique Tourism Summit, officials also showcased an investment catalog featuring 40 to 50 tourism ventures, which contained 25 well-defined prospects for joint ventures and capital acquisition. Prominent among the showcased initiatives was the Vilankulo–Inhassoro Waterfront Anchor Project, spanning a 35-kilometre coastal stretch designated for luxury lodgings, premium harbors, ecological resorts, upscale dining venues, and housing schemes. Authorities are advancing tourism concessions across Inhambane and other regions alongside UN Tourism and the Global Tourism Institute, a collaboration expected to raise the nation's global reputation as a hub for travel and commerce.
