Kentucky Wildcats Dominating the New Orleans Pelicans Roster: Latest Updates and News

It looks like the New Orleans Pelicans are becoming a team full of Kentucky Wildcats. New Orleans is signing Rajon Rondo, according to Yahoo Sports.

The former UK star is coming off a forgettable season with the Chicago Bulls. Rondo was playing great in Chicago’s first-round series with the Celticsbut he injured his right hand in Game 2 which turned out to be a thumb fracture. The veteran point guard was pivotal in helping Chicago take a commanding 2-0 lead in this series with both wins coming in Boston.

In two games against the Celtics, Rondo averaged 11.5 points, 10 assists, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals. He struggled for a good part of his first year with the Bulls, but eventually returned to the starting lineup to help guide Chicago to the final playoff spot in the East.

The good news for Rondo is that surgery wasn’t required, so he should be back to full health by now. While he didn’t get a big money deal in free agency, Rondo was able to get a deal with a team that already has a strong UK flavor.

Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins form one of, if not the NBA’s best frontcourt, while Darius Miller is back from Germany in hopes of giving New Orleans more scoring off the bench.

There’s also James Young, who just played with New Orleans in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League. Young played well enough that he should, at the very least, earn a training camp invite. If he makes the final roster, that could give New Orleans five different former Cats, making them UK’s unofficial NBA team.
