Step.- A Kentucky woman who shot an Uber driver in the head taking her from West El Paso to the Speaking Rock casino, believing he was kidnapping her and crossing into Mexico, sent photos of the wounded man to her boyfriend before calling 911. 911.

According to newly obtained court documents, Phoebe Copas, 48, was charged with aggravated assault following investigators said she shot the Uber driver on June 16.

Copas, who is not from El Paso, was riding an Uber on her way to the Speaking Rock Casino to meet her boyfriend when she saw signs for the detour to Juarez.

Investigators believe Copas panicked that Uber driver Daniel Piedra Garcia was kidnapping her and taking her to Mexico. Police say the highway location where the shooting occurred is not near a port of entry and is on a common route to the casino. This happened on US-54 near Loop 375.

Police say Copas pulled out a revolver and fired at Piedra, causing the car to crash into a concrete barrier. Court documents indicate that Copas took a photo of the scene and sent it to her boyfriend before she called 911.

The 52-year-old victim was rushed to the University Medical Center (UMC) and is on life support. Police say that she had been shot multiple times.
